Description

Migrating to a new country with a different language and culture is one the most significant decision of your life.

Probably the most challenging part of the migration is re-establishing your career in a new country you don’t know much about. While there may be some support from personal or professional networks, they are usually very limited in time, experience, perspective and objective.

This course is developed based on research from migrant job seekers & promotion seekers, hiring managers, recruiters and employment service providers to identify the fundamental problems.

This course is designed to provide migrants with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the job market in their new country successfully. It will focus on developing the tools necessary to create a career plan, identifying strengths and skills, exploring career options, and preparing for the job search process.

The course will begin with an introduction to career development and the job market in the host country. Students will learn about the main challenges of a migrant. This will be followed by an assessment of their current skills, education, and work experience to identify potential career paths and areas for development.

Students will then learn about the importance of cultural differences and its impact on their employment; How organisations focus on cultural fit during their recruitment processes. They will also learn the strategies to address these issues most effectively. Special attention will be given to cultural differences in job search practices and workplace expectations.

The course will also cover the importance of ongoing professional development, continuing education’s benefits, and strategies for balancing work and personal life.

Prerequisites:

There are no formal prerequisites for this course; however, basic English proficiency is required. Students should be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
