What you will learn

Understand the format and need of IP address and subnet mask

Convert decimal to binary and binary to decimal

Determine the class of IP address

Determine the type of subnet mask (default or subnetted)

Calculate number of network, host, and subnet bits

Calculate number of subnets

Calculate number of hosts per subnet

Calculate network number (network id), broadcast address, first usable address, and last usable address

Create subnets based on given requirements

Design network addressing plan using VLSM

Description

IP address and subnet mask are the keys to computer networking. You can unlock practical networking knowledge and skills only if you master this topic. In this course, I present concepts and calculations in an easy-to-understand manner.

How to master IP addressing and subnetting skill?

To take full benefit of this course learner needs to watch lecture videos multiple times and take notes. And solve the exercises without help.

How I presented this topic?

I divided IP addresses and subnetting topic into three sections. The first section covers the basic concepts and skills. It includes a number of exercises that make you ready to take the next sections confidently. The second section includes subnetting where we design and create the subnets for each class network and do a number of exercises. The third section includes variable length subnet mask, by reaching this topic you will be prepared to grasp the concepts quickly and easily. There I explained the need and benefit of VLSM, compared it with other addressing techniques, and included network address design exercises using VLSM.
