Description

Amsterdam view in technique of patches.

In this tutorial you will learn how to paint a cityscape of Amsterdam with oils and a palette knife. This adorable city has its own character, especially in the rain! The personality of Amsterdam is in cute houses, always hurrying people, umbrellas and canals. This cityscape was invented while I was painting the place, then I came home and made this tutorial from my memories and impressions.

This tutorial is different from others because it is made as an oil sketch. Usually is oil painting previous is made an under-painting and than the objects are applied upon it.

But in this case we will apply everything in one moment so that we first find the relations between colors and objects and than we will finish the sketch with thick patches of oil paint jus how the impressionists did

Once you are beginning to paint any scene, you have to find the main three – four shades that define your painting color scheme, mood and the final image of your artwork.

We find out how to correct our painting if something went wrong.
