This course has been created to explain in a simple way the essential notions of the Controller Area Network (CAN bus) in order to master its function.

The course is structured as follows:

A presentation starting with the principle of multiplexing in which the CAN bus is based, then a brief history to get an idea of its origin with a general view, also understanding its components as well as the advantages and disadvantages.

This first part will help to understand its main characteristics and all the existing frames on the bus.

After that comes the role of the CAN bus in error handling which is a very important element as the bus has to operate in a harsh environment.

You will also see the notion of nominal bit time to understand how the synchronization of the different elements that communicate in the bus is done, with the last module that deals with troubleshooting to have a brief idea on how to eliminate the frequent errors in the wiring of CAN-networks.
