Why take this course?
Females have different circulating levels of hormones across their lifetime. From puberty, to menstrual cycle, to menopause. An imbalance of hormones can lead to a plethora of issues including mood swings, decreased physical performance, acne and even issues with concentration. Understanding which hormones are out of balance can allow us to create a plan to rebalance them through diet, exercise, medication, or supplements.
In this course we will discuss all the supplements which have been described to have some sort of benefit for women’s physiology.
· We will cover the chemistry of the supplement or its “bioactive” components.
· The purported health benefits
· The scientific premise behind these health benefits
· Appropriate doses, toxicities, and duration of supplementation
· GRAS status and EFSA reports
Sometimes scientific literature does not support the use of a supplement or a dietary method. This doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. Science is often behind the traditional medicine pathway as we have to test safety, toxicity and understand the mechanisms by which it works (or doesn’t). Just because science hasn’t confirmed a beneficial effect, doesn’t mean that there isn’t one there to investigate.
