Description
For Europeans who have grown up in the late 20th and 21st century, the EU has been a constant buzzword in society. It comes up so much in the news, on TV, on social media and in conversations with your weird EU-obsessed cousin that it is easy to become overwhelmed and confused by this seemingly exotic and grand institution. The truth is that even though it can be strikingly complicated and confusing, it is no more grandiose than taking public transport to a football match.
This course is designed to give lawyers, law students or just generally curious people an introduction to some basic concepts in European Union Law.
It is taught by Harris Mahmood, a Law Graduate and Private Legal Tutor from the University of Glasgow whose aim is to to break down complicated legal subjects and and make legal education as accessible as possible.
As the EU begins to divide opinion across Europe and deals with unprecedented challenges in the modern era, this course will break down key aspects of the European Union and show what role the EU and EU Law plays in our lives.
The topics covered in this course are:
- History of the EU
- Institutions of the EU
- Principles of the EU
- The Four Freedoms
- Challenges for the EU
By the end of this course you will understand how and why the EU was created, how it operates and why it is so important. Additionally you will gain valuable foundations for the study of EU Law which will help in future in-depth study of the course.
