Distinguishing between cultural and religious practices has broad general implications on social issues such as ethnic, and language diversity. The course addresses assimilation, discrimination, multiculturalism, challenges of immigrants, and integration in society.

This course is applicable for all those who are living in a dominant culture and want to know what are the issues of assimilation and cultural pluralism for intergroup relations. Diversity is often seen as a source of strength, but at the same time, it can be a source of conflict due to inevitable challenges of pluralism: the ever-growing conflicts between religious, national, and ethnic groups and the growing oppression and injustice towards individuals by the dominant group.
