Parenting your child is one of the most difficult tasks that you will face in your life. At the same time it is potentially one of the most rewarding tasks that you will ever face.

Parenting your ADHD child is infinitely more challenging. It puts you under massive strain, and it puts your marriage under a huge strain. Having to cover up and explain your ADHD child’s behaviour to your family members is shockingly draining.

Your ADHD child  seems to take the lion’s share of your attention. Your ADHD child’s difficulties makes your home environment chaotic and overwhelming. Your ADHD child can set  themselves and everyone off at a moment’s notice.

This makes you more on edge.  You never know when things will suddenly escalate out of control. You may be suffering from cumulative stress.

Having to advocate (fight with your school)  for your  ADHD child to get the appropriate help at school can be a full time job. It can be totally exhausting and debilitating.

How do I know that?

I have had my dark times. I have ADHD, and I am a mum of 5 ADHD children. I nearly caved in many times. Many times I just about held on.

I  decided that there must be another better way to live. I searched long and hard for the answers. I was told that I wouldn’t find them. I didnt give up. I found the answers that I was looking for.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

As a mum of an ADHD child, you need specialist tools to get you through these tough times.

You need two minutes to make a cup of tea and drink it in peace and quiet.

You need to create the time to do what you love to do, without guilt, even when your house runs on wheels…

Your emotional and physical energy are being used up at an alarming rate. You need to constantly replenish your energy. If you don’t, then you will get fed up and burnt out.

You need all the support that you can get through family and friends.

Your family, and your ADHD child need you to be in optimum emotional shape in order to help them. Being a martyr, and ignoring your needs, doesnt serve you or your family well. It harms you and your family.
