• Alan Robertson started the initial development in March 1998, followed by the first web site and software release later that year.
• The project has come a long way since its inception, from simple two-node setups with basic takeover semantics to n-node clusters capable of handling complex scenarios with comprehensive monitoring and policies.
• With version 2.0.0, released on July 29, 2005, the project reached a level of feature parity or superiority compared to commercial HA software. After version 3.1, the cluster resource manager (Heartbeat) was split into its own project called Pacemaker.
