Why take this course?
Handlettering For the 21st Century
Hand lettering is essentially drawing letters. It’s different from calligraphy, where we use basic strokes to form letters and words. With hand lettering, each letter is carefully thought. … The letters from a hand–lettered alphabet are usually illustrated and each one is meant to be a completely different piece
Syllabus:
Welcome to the course on Hand Lettering. To get started I recommend getting a good calligraphy pen or nib. I don’t use nibs* I recommend spending $3 at your stationary store for a signature style pen can cost anywhere from 5 to 20 dollars with tax.
Why do you need a dip pen and ink bottle?
You don’t,Β A catch all is a Pentel Pocket brush.
So do I get a calligraphy dip pen or brush?
You get either, both or something that allow the artist to create THICK or t-h-i-n lines very easily. Thick on the downstroke and thin on the upstroke. A brush pen from Pentel isΒ golden standard of brush pens. I was hesitant on shelling $20 for one, so there are alternatives. Such the Pentel Brush for $12, or a brush marker from copic or Prismacolor. Follow along, and if you can do the demos, than I recommend seeing the practice sheets until you can complete the demo. *In the 21st century people prefer fountain pens, but if you want to try out a nib, I hear Hunt 56 and Hunt101, I ONLY use a 2.5 mm tip or wider, with Y&C Calligraphy pen being the best pen. Let’s Get The Graffiti On The Wall.
