Description
This course discusses the Basics of Belt drives, Selection of Flat belts and V belts from Manufactures Catalogue. In basics of belt drives, belt classifications and important terms associated with belt drives including belt length for open as well as cross belt drive, power transmitting capacity, condition for maximum power transmitting capacity, initial tension, centrifugal tension in belt drive, limiting tension ratios for flat and V belts are presented and discussed. The effect of centrifugal tension on power transmitting capacity of the belt drive is also discussed. It would help for the selection of belt drives. In this course, parameters required for the selection of flat belt drive and V belt drive also presented and explained. In procedure of selection of flat belts and V belts, significance of different factors such as load correction factor, correction factor and arc of contact factor for service are discussed. In these course, two cases of selection of flat belt and v belt drive from manufactures catalogue is also explained in a lucid manner. The belt specification for Hi- speed belting and Fort belting is also explained. This course will be beneficial to the engineering students and working engineers for the selection of belts required for specific applications.
