This is a basic course for the beginner engineers intended to pursue their carrier in the field of Metallurgy or in the broader sense in the field of Materials Engineering. in this course the fundamental concepts of phase transformation of alloys from the perspective of thermodynamics and kinetics of the phase transformation reaction have been discussed. The course material has been divided into three parts. In the first part, different types of possible phase diagrams in the binary alloy system have been discussed. In the second part, thermodynamic principles of phase diagram and application of the same in the construction of the phase diagram has been taught. In the third part, the kinetics of nucleation and growth mechanism of the solid phase from the liquid phase as well from the solid phase has been discussed in great detail.
